What is E15 Gas?
At the pump, generally you’ll see three numbers. The lowest is regular gas, good for most models, while the highest is the premium stuff reserved for high-performance engines. The one in the middle, which usually has an 88 octane, is E15, and this means it has up to 15% of ethanol.
Pros and Cons of E15 Gas
Often, the primary reason why drivers decide to use E15 gas is that it’s cheaper than regular gas. It can also do a better job of preventing engine knock, and it provides improved combustion efficiency and horsepower. The downside to E15 gas, however, is that you could see a drop in fuel economy, which might negate any savings.
Can My Jeep Vehicle Use E15 Gas?
The answer to this question depends on the year of your model. If your car is from 2012 or newer, you should be fine using E15 gas. It may not be advisable, however, with older models. This is because they might not be compatible, and the extra ethanol could cause rubber fuel lines and seals to degrade. Before you switch, be sure to look at your owner’s manual for manufacturer recommendations.
