The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, with its 707 horsepower engine, used to rule the roost at Hall Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM Virginia Beach. There’s a new king of the hill that piles on even more horsepower and torque, and it could make Norfolk, VA area drivers very happy. It’s the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, and it will be available soon in limited numbers.
The Street & Racing Technology division had a simple mandate for the Demon trim. As Tim Kuniskis, CEO of Dodge, put it when he introduced the car at the New York International Auto Show, “We wanted to build a car for the NHRA, not the PTA.”
That’s apparent from the first glance. The front and rear passenger seats are gone (they can be optioned in for a dollar apiece). More importantly, this is a muscle car in the truest sense: 840 horsepower and 770 lb.-ft. of torque, courtesy of the most powerful V8 engine in a production car.
You know you want to floor it. Here’s what happens when you do:
The Demon reaches 60 miles per hour in 2.3 seconds, and 100 miles per hour in 5.1 seconds, on the way to a 9.65 second quarter mile. Per the NHRA, that’s a record for a production car. That’s fast enough to make you grin even wider than the demon on the side of the car.
