Like many of our Portsmouth and Norfolk, VA customers, we’ve been impatiently waiting for the arrival of the 2018 RAM 1500 at Hall Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM Virginia Beach. In the meantime, we’ve also been hearing quite a bit about the 2019 RAM 1500.

One reason the 2018 RAM 1500 is going to be so similar to the 2017 model it replaces is that the 2019 version kicks off the model’s next generation. Details are scattered among several sources, but here’s what we’ve been able to piece together so far:

  • The 2019 RAM 1500 will be assembled at the Sterling Heights, MI plant, which was re-tooled after the Chrysler 200 was discontinued last year.
  • In contrast to the competition — which is using more and more aluminum in its trucks — the next generation of RAM trucks will still be built mostly of high-strength steel. The only exceptions will be the hood and tailgate, which will be fabricated from aluminum alloys.
  • Expect a new look, with a re-styled grille, headlights, and running lights in front and new tail lights out back. In between, the truck will look a bit more aerodynamic than before.
  • The centerpiece of the interior will be a much larger UConnect display. Expect more luxury features and amenities as well.
  • Per Car and Driver, be on the lookout for a Mega Cab trim, previously limited to heavy-duty RAM trucks.
  • Also expect one new engine — likely a direct-injected V-6 engine — for improved fuel economy.
  • Want to see this truck in person? Your first chance is likely to be at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. That means by January we should know more about its price, specifications, and release date.
